I’m down to the wear bars on the 235/75/15s that came with “Butchie”. These skins are dead. I’m looking for a set of used tires and want to upsize. With 3.31 gears I’m a bit worried about 31x10.50s. If I was still young and dumb I’d just toss a set of 33s on it but with age comes wisdom..

So far I’ve found deals on 265/70/15s (GY Silent Armor), 30/9.50/15s (BFG A/T) and 31/10.50/15s (BFG A/T) all less than five years old and all around $300 mounted and balanced.

I just have to get froggy and jump on one. I’m leaning towards the 265s.

Opinions are welcome.

My 90 F150 2wd ran 31” Kelly safaris just fine and I believe our generations shared similar gearing on the rear.

Yeah, I think 87-96 were the same under the skin. I was worried about mileage but now that I think about it that shouldn’t really change much.

I can confirm that an ‘89 Bronco with 33x12.50x15’s will rub at full lock and it really fucks with the gearing.

Maybe a mile or two. Though it may improve given the state of your current tires. That and if you avoid a super aggressive tread. I never got why people with street trucks would get M/T or swampers yet never go off road. Itd be like me rocking some slicks to DD

My Lincoln has 2.47 gears and the factory tires are 235/75r15 you are more than ok going on 31’s with the gearing you have. and I believe yours is a 4 spd to boot I only have 3 spds and 2.47 gears.

What engine, and what’s the concern with gearing? Towing? acceleration? Load? I wouldn’t worry too much, 31 isn’t too much tire to push with 3.31

My biggest fear is ruining the way it drives. Even with worn tires this thing drives like new, the PO put a lot of money into making that happen. I’m the second owner and don’t want to be the guy that kills it?

you will work your brakes a little harder, and your acceleration will be slower...and depending on the tire you may get less direct steering, but you aren’t actually changing anything on the car that would affects its driving. when I went from 31.5 to 33 i noticed a slight loss of power but better economy...and that was it.
